Who Are We?NGLA is a Local Literacy Council affiliated with GALA, the Georgia Association of Literacy Advocates. We serve counties in North Georgia including Cherokee, Gilmer, Murray, Pickens, and Whitfield. The purpose of this Council is to promote literacy and foster a love of reading on a local level, where we can truly understand what specific needs are not being met. Our outreach consists of supporting strong, research-informed literacy instruction, providing professional development opportunities for educators, promoting family and community literacy engagement, and expanding equitable access to books and literacy resources. The North Georgia Literacy Association is a grassroots, nonprofit collective made possible by local leaders with a passion for accessible literacy solutions. Our team has been working non-stop to get our local literacy council off the ground. We have made connections with local libraries, schools, and national associations, and now we need your help to keep this momentum going.
